French Wine Scholar

Vineyards

The French Wine Scholar study and certification program is geared for members of the wine trade and serious wine hobbyists; it is designed to test your proficiency in the wines and wine regions of France.

This course was developed and is administrated by the Wine Scholar Guild with the support of the French Ministry of Agriculture; The Sydney Wine Academy is an approved provider of this program.

All students receive a French Wine Scholar full colour printed handbook and access to on-line study material.

What you will learn

  • French wine law
  • History, climate, topography, grape varieties, viticulture and winemaking
  • All French wine regions including the lesser known Jura, Savoie and Corsica
  • Taste a wide range of wine from France
  • Overview of regional French cuisine

This core body of knowledge is important whether you sell wine or buy wine.

While not a pre-requisite, we recommend that students have successfully completed, at a minimum, one of the following programs before enrolling in the French Wine Scholar program: WSET level 2, Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) or Court of Master Sommelier’s Introductory Sommelier Certificate (Level 1).

As part of your enrolment, you receive a Study Pack and, (for some courses) a set of 6 tasting glasses.  Once you have received your ‘Course Confirmation’ email, these will be available for collection from TAFE, Ryde Campus, H Block Administration Office, 59 Parkes Street, West Ryde 2114.
