Advanced Sommelier

This course provides you with specialist training in the field of sommeliers and covers knowledge of both Australian and imported wine and skills in the sales and service of wine. Providing advice on food and beverage matching, the management of a wine outlet, and general knowledge of spirits and liqueurs are also a feature of this course.

The course is suitable for people within the industry either working in or wishing to progress into the role of sommelier in a fine dining restaurant.

  • on-premise marketing and promotion of wines
  • specialist knowledge in spirit and liqueurs
  • selecting wines
  • wine service
  • specialist knowledge of Australian wine
  • specialist knowledge of international wines
  • food and wine recommendations
  • systematic approach to tasting wines
  • role and duties of a sommelier
  • taste and evaluate a wide range of Australian and international wines as well as spirits

You can expect to do an additional at least 5.4 hours/week of self-directed study, which may include (e.g., Portfolio work, online learning, workplace learning, and self-study).
